When you join the Commercial Management & Student Surveyor Programme you’ll develop an understanding of Wates' commercial processes and activities and be involved with project delivery in relation to profit and risk management.
Learning how to value and pay sub-contractors, and prepare and issue payment notices, you’ll also prepare tender and contract documents, and develop an understanding of professional standards and governance procedures, and how to implement these.
You’ll have a wide range of additional responsibilities, including producing and analysing reports to ensure projects are financially viable, and providing contractual, commercial and financial information to your line manager and other functions. You'll be expected to safeguard Wates’ contractual position in respect of the progress of works, design responsibilities and legal obligations to sub-contractors, and you’ll build effective working relations with key stakeholders, clients, wider teams and supply chains. You’ll also be involved in forecasting, risk assessment and the monitoring of cashflow, and help to build a bid winning strategy while identifying our customer’s key requirements. On successful completion of the programme, you’ll move into an Assistant Quantity Surveyor role.

The school and grounds are used by the school and the local community 7 days a week and under the guidance Site Manager. The post holder, working on a rota basis, will be responsible for maintenance, security and facilities management of the site.
During this Apprenticeship you will undertake the tasks involved within various departments for the Architectural & Structural Division. This will include commercial, production, quality assurance, planning and transport. You will spend time in each department learning what they do and applying what you have learnt. You will work within various teams under the support and supervision of a dedicated mentor.
When you join the Business Management Trainee programme, youll be working alongside the Living Space team and gain hands-on experience through functional rotations.
When you join the Design Management Trainee programme, youll engage with a variety of professionals such as stakeholders, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and sub-contractors.
When you join the Estimating Management Trainee programme, youll be responsible for assisting with the preparation of cost estimates and cost planning deliverables for the purpose of work winning in the Pre-Construction function.
When you join the Student Planner programme, youll support the planning process of tenders, pre-construction and project delivery for large scale construction projects, and play a vital role as you assist the planning team in overseeing logistics, deploying workers, managing budgets and ensuring work is on schedule.
When you join the Student Engineer programme, youll be responsible for the functional characteristics of a building that takes it from being an empty shell to becoming a comfortable, occupied space.
